Hard to tell without a side view but I do not think it's a mold - reminds me of a "slide thumb button / actuator", slide the button to the left or right and the lock pops up, like on a briefcase.

Plz put something in the pics to show size reference and additional angles as requested above.

Is it broken off something? More information is better.

I don't think it is a musket ball mould either.

Can't really tell. Could be a mold, could also be the knuckle off a tractor steering drag link ball joint.

Your picture next to the envelope confuses me, which is very easy to do, confuse me, anyway I can not see what you're trying to show, but....found over in Europe it could be anything, still can't tell if it's half a sphere but it must be since you think it may be a mold, like in the link above vhs posted, (sure looks like a mold), but I always thought the molds and handles were one piece, built or made of the same steel as the handle of the tool. I know very little about civil war era and earlier ammunitions.
