rwsnc and i were searching for about 2.5hrs on a 1785 site Modern Miner / Dug got us permission to detect after he did a quick once or twice over??????

Bob / rwsnc and myself found a few clad coins, beer cans, pull tabs, aluminum gutter parts, an old spoke axel, plow tips, small buckle, whats left of a hand hoe and a first year Roosevelt dime plus this squished mostly zinc musical looking thing. :help:
FYI one end is sealed. Reminds me of the keel of a ship only a lot smaller.

Any ideas would be appreciated and thanks for the chance to did there (Dug / Modern Miner).

Next time i go back i`m pulling out my large coil for those 12 inch deep targets.
We even got to meet the owner who had recently rebuilt on the same foot print after a 2003 fire.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting.
Hope everyone has a Happy Holiday.

Bill,
I'm glad to see you guys made it over there. It was a b-tch trying to find it before I bought a GPS. :tongue3:
Check the horse pasture next time if it is still low. It was easy swinging when I was there in Oct.
Did you find the cemetery?
Better luck next time, there is plenty of area to cover. I found my share of pull tabs too. :'(
Let me know if you find another LC. :icon_thumleft:

Thanks warsawdaddy and Modern Miner i also thought it was a kazoo since they they were introduced in either 1840 or 1852 as listed by wikipedia.

Wouldn't a kazoo have both ends open?

Looks like a salt shaker that's been smashed flat.

I'm thinking food related strainer of some sort. Like a tea strainer... Is there a solder mark on the flat side?

I wonder how long it would have taken for someone to guess kazoo if the title and/or description had not mentioned music?

I'm with Matt, I think it is food related; a strainer or grater for garlic, tea, or whatever. After the item was grated/strained, it could be easily poured from the cup. I'm guessing 1950's. Breezie

I`m going to clean it up and do a little gentle bending to open it up a bit.

Matt, i`ll re-post pics. So far no solder joints visible.

Good observation IronSpike.

BamaBill, squished yes.

Breezie you don`t have a pic of what an old strainer / grater might look like while i try to straighten it do you?

How about the top to a talc container. They used a lot of that stuff back then in the pre-air conditioning days. :laughing7:
