Hello,
This is a question for people who have more than one coil for their machines. Do you bring both of the coils
with you in the field, or do you usually know specifically what kind of terrain/environment you'll be encountering
ahead of time and just use the coil you'll need for that specific trip?
I will be getting a 4" coil soon and am trying to figure out if it's best to just use the 4" coil and lose maybe a bit
of depth, or carry both with me and be able to switch.. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

POCO,
I'm new here and hope no one minds my reply. When I'm out diggin holes, it's not uncommon for me to have all four of my Explorer II coils in the jeep. If I'm hunting new ground, I never know what conditions I might run into.

Hello Poco, What I do is use the coil that I feel is the one for the location at the time I am going to be there hunting. I have carried the other coil in the truck and rarely had to go back and install it. A lot depends on how far I have to walk an if I think it's worth the trip. If the site is very trashy I just take the smaller coil.

It is far better to carry an extra coil and not need it, than to need the extra coil and not have carried it!

Farmercal's post sounds something like an issue I got myself into a while back.
I know that makes no sense to you, so, "Forgetta bout'it"

As far as coils go. I totally agree with Farmercal's post.
If you have them and the room. I say take extra detectors too.
I always take as much as I can fit in. HH

I always carry all three of my Explorer coils with me at all times. It never hurts to have the extra ones in your trunk ready to go! I use my 15" WOT for large areas that generally produce few, but deep targets... my 10.5" stock coil for house yards, etc., since most of the signals aren't too deep in yards for some odd reason... and my little Joey coil for playgrounds, or trashy areas.

Just think of it like going out on a date with a pretty girl you just met.... it never hurts to have that condom handy just in case ;) hahaha

poco... if you have it, bring it! I bring as much detecting gear as I can carry to a site, because the conditions can vary so much even within 10 or 20 feet.

Keeping the coils on an extra rod sounds like a good idea. Anybody know where to get an extra rod for the Explorer XS?

Not sure... maybe you could try ebay from time to time and see if one comes up... Or kellyco might carry them? But they are certainly nice to have if you switch coils a lot like I do! Saves quite a bit of time!

Explorer rods

Rusted_Iron, I have seen used lower rods for the Explorer II for sale quite a bit and they will work in the Explorer XS (someone correct me if I am wrong).  HH Cal
