Hey everyone,Saturday was a good day! It's deer season here in Maine and I'm one of the fortunate ones that you here about who shoot deer right out the back window, so far I'm 3 for three and still trying to make it four for four.My back attic window overlooks about 125 acres of fields so I just roll out of bed in the morning dump the water in the coffee maker and its off to the attic to sit and watch for deer, It's more like sniper season anyway after sitting for a couple hours with nothing happening I was getting bored and decided to do a little cleaning in my attic, thats one of the good things about hunting at home,it leaves time for other things especially with winter so close its a good time to get things buttoned up.There's a pile of old doors, storm windows and old window screens that I've been looking at way too long so I decided while I was up there that I could go through them and see what I should keep and what to throw out and still run over and look out the window every so often just in case.I live in a c.1870 farm house and have been through it pretty well looking for the stash that must be there even pulling up most of the floorboards in the attic to look underneith no stash was ever recovered. I moved a couple of storm windows and a window screen and I found an old tobacco pipe on the floor,Huum never saw that before then I moved a door and behind that on the floor was an old Whittemores 5 oz. bottle I moved another and on the floor behind that a little rectangular bottle aqua in color and embossed Hire's improved root beer this little bottle made five gallons of rootbeer when mixed with soda water then I moved another and found an old Certo bottle, another concentrated syrup drink. After moving everything I noticed a crack in the sheathing boards about an inch and a half wide and running horizontal and on the same level as the attic floor I ran down and got a flashlight so I could see in the crack Shining the light in I saw an old tobacco tin, could this be it?I wasn't able to get my arm in far enough so I got one of those magnets on an extendable post like a radio antenna and reached in with that I pulled it out and it was empty but it was a 1926 Velvet pipe and cigg. Tobacco tin 1-1/2 oz. in near mint condition after that I was on a roll I did every bay in the attic where the rafters come down across the top plate and the rafter tails extend out beyond the wall your sophitt boards are nailed onto the bottom of the rafter tails and that makes a nice little shelf for things that fall over the edge to catch up on. well, to make a long story a little shorter heres what I came up with.A Pipe,a Whittemores medicine bottle,a Hires improved rootbeer syrup bottle,a Wrights Dairy 1 quart milk bottle,a paper label vitamin E lotion sample bottle,A cork stop beer or soda bottle,a Certo syrup bottle,a paper label baking soda tin, again thought this was my stash but it wasn't, 5- 1926 Velvet tobacco tins and one Union Leader Tobacco tin,all 1-1/2 oz. and all empty. Also an old caramels 1c cardbord wrapper, a 1932 postage stamp,A baby food jar filled with various size paperboard sticky back disks, again at first glance I thought this was my stash but it wasn't.Also an old fawn's foot knife, obviously very old. There was also a lot of other stuff pulled out but nothing else worth mentioning. If you have an old attic like mine make sure you search these bays and please let me know what you come up with, maybe yours holds that secret stash please send me a private message in case I miss your post and good luck!!!So you all know I have searched all these bays previously with a flashlight and a mirror so I could see where my eyes couldn't get and I only found a couple old bottles, the magnet was the trick that really produced the attic treasures that I had previously missed.I'm gonna try to post some pictures now,Happy Hunting,Bootstrap
