Move on Over Miss SE for the Big Fisher Dog F-75's in town!!!!

Well, being a little disgusted with the entire MD'ing experience I was ready to sell all my equipment a couple of weeks ago. I guess you could say I had a change of heart realizing how much I really like doing this "digging" thing! Anyway, I've added another member to my metal detecting family with the arrival of "Big Fisher Dog F-75!" I took delivery late yesterday; giving him a good 6 hour workout today. I've never owned a metal detector so easy to use right out of the box and to pinpoint with! I opted to go ALL METAL and the machine was a breeze to setup and ground balance. I literally began finding targets as soon as the coil hit the ground! I know my take is not all that impressive but what thrills me is the variety and the "small-ness" of some items. I worked Central Park in Trinidad. It's been hit hard and often by one particular fellow by the name of John! I actually met him there this morning although he'd left his detector at home. He could have hidden it in the bushes for all I know. He didn't seem to like all the goodies I found in "his" kiddie section. Anyway, here's my take; the Fisher's hot on quarters and dimes.

23 Pennies
4 Nickels
18 dimes
25 Quarters

Total 70 Coins

Congrats and kick butt at the park.

Great finds and you bought a great detector. Use if exclusive for 6 months and see what you find.

Re: Move on Over Miss SE for the Big Fisher Dog F-75's in town!!!!

Way to go! The more you use it the better the finds will get. Hang in there.

Re: Move on Over Miss SE for the Big Fisher Dog F-75's in town!!!!

Good hunting!

And I'm glad to see you own a SE. Otherwise, I'd have recommended you use your trowel to dig a foxhole and prepare for incoming.

I like my F-75 a whole bunch but know better than to do much poking at Explorer II, SE or DFX owners. They're every bit as good if you can figure them out, and most of the extra weight is just all those batteries. ;)

Way to go. Nice finds.

Way to go on your finds at the park. I have seen a detector like yours in action and I liked it very much. I'd like to add one to my collection of detectors, but the wife would kill me. She thinks seven is enough. Ah heck, what does she know. LOL!!

Anyway, nice finds, those silver finds are just around the corner with that detector.

Ya gotta love when someone calls an area "theirs" and you go out there and dig some goodies where they have hunted a zillion times. I had a guy tell me that a part of the Pacific coast was his once.....ONCE.. Never have seen him again??? Imagine that....;D
SUPER FINDS!

Hey MD'ing Buddies!
Thanks for all the encouraging wishes! :)

Yes, the F-75 is a marvel machine! I especially like the recovery speed and ease of setting-adjusting SENSITIVITY! As many of you probably know the standard coil supplied with the unit is the only coil available from Fisher at the moment to my knowledge. Being able to easily reduce SENSITIVITY in trashy areas is a big plus as IMO it keeps me from having to change-carry different coil sizes. The downside is (IMO) lowering SENSITIVITY (On the F-75) also lowers DEPTH capability. I'm not sold on how adjusting SENSITIVITY eithers lowers or ups audio however. I wish Fisher would correct that problem as it is a nuisance even with adjustable volume Gray Ghost NDTs!

I have been looking at the F-75 really hard but the cost has kept me away, that and the lack of additional coils. Do you feel the machine is worth the price they are asking for it?

Great bunch of finds from your old spot. It's never all gone...

Keep safe...

Thanks for the post. I've been wondering how people like their 75's. May have to replace my CZ 5 pretty soon. Ron

I didn't notice a volume change when adjusting sensitivity, just less false chatter when lowering it. Is this in All Metal mode? I've been able to run pretty high sensitivity in that and maybe just never lowered it to the point I noticed it. I have to chase the Threshold up or down again after changing Sensitivity in All Metal, but I keep my F-75 on full volume all the time and usually have my Rattler headphone up near it's top end, also.

Hello Metal Detectorists!
Thanks for commenting!

Charlie!
Yep, in AMM the volume (target response) increases-decreases depending on SENSITIVITY. At least with my unit?

Today I drove over to Raton, New Mexico (pronounced rat TONE--french). It's only 20 miles or so from Trinidad, Colorado. A park located there is a Fisher's F-75 nightmare. There is a power plant near by (on the same block-big block!). And, the park is ringed with light fixtures, metal fences and metal pipe barriers. To make things even worse, iron ore was used as a base under most all of the park! My F-75 actually blanked (screen went dead) although noises were still being produced. I tried lowering SENSITIVITY to no avail. I tried turning the unit off and on, re-GB'ing but still the screen blanked. I then tried different frequencies which did help but in the end gave up on the Big Fisher Dogg F-75. Luckily I had both Cortes and Little Miss SE in the truck. The interfence also affected Cortes but Little Miss SE breezed right along without a blip. In fact, I was able to increase sensitivity and gain! Has this happened to anyone yet? Fisher's manual says nothing about "blanking"??

Did you still have the battery bar? I've had audio hits that were low iron that did not register TID numbers (below discrimination level). Are you sure they were real hits and not falses or phantoms in the audio? I understand the audio and TID are seperated circuits and so you can have independant hits or misses on the marginal signals. Haven't had repeated or lengthy blackouts, though. Usually when iy goes "sparky" from nearby EMI I get random TID numbers with the sound chatter.

Had an odd one on a riverbank this week. On a discrimination setting of 18 I had a clipped audio and no TID, but the FeO2 scale was pegged full up (usually shows zip hereabouts). Curious, I dug up a 6" L shaped whatzit chunk of iron that was in a galaxy of mud just full of rust; like red clay. Possibly a forged fork but way gone towards chaos. Must have been there some time. I guess the "halo" was big enough to kick an audio signal but the TID knew it was iron.

Hello Charlie!
I wish I'd taken along my camera. This was my very first trip to this particular park and I did not know what I was in for. I may go back tomorrow; expect some pics! :)

No, it's like the machine lost all power; nothing was showing. I probably should have made more mental or penciled down notes. After hunting successfully with Little Miss SE I moved to another area on the same block but away from all the electrical lines and metal. Bigg Fisher Dogg F-75 worked as expected. In fact I recovered several Lincolns and a wheat before calling it a day. I'll keep everyone posted on tomorrow's results. I thank everyone for your interest!

That don't sound good. Loose battery or internal connection?? Someone else was saying they had trouble with the batteries. I'm right about at 40 hours on my original set so I guess I'll get to check out the cover and contacts again (I've had the rain cover on the battery box since I bought it).

I carry a 3x5 spiral bound notepad in my finds pouch (in a zip-loc). For the first few weeks I logged every item, trash or no, for depth indicated, TID and depth dug. Also all my settings. After a while it gets to be too anal but with a new detector I think it's important. I still write down the unique or odd finds. Anywhere I find more than one wheat cent, for instance, is worth returning to as there might be silver.

Re: Move on Over Miss SE for the Big Fisher Dog F-75's in town!!!!

Hello Gang!

Master E; my apologies! Is the F-75 worth the price? I think I got a fair price at $850 delivered with a goody or two (junk mostly). When he works, he's a fine lad that Bigg Fisher Dogg F-75! But today, with interference jury's still out. I'll be able to answer your question a little better tomorrow as I'm still deciphering today's problem! Sadly, Fisher's manual is of little help. :(

Charlie,
Yes, I should have written things down also;a daily log is a good thing. I do not believe it is a battery problem as I was still receiving audio. It was a weird problem to experience. I'm going back over there tomorrow more prepared. I'll have my camera in tow and won't be relying on things delegated to memory.

Gang, I'm getting ready to post my finds for today in another thread; please be watching. :)
