Re-post but a dam great video!

I don't recall where, but yes this video has been on various forums before. It's still a good show though.

Thanks Kiddo,
Mike

Yeah, its been posted a LOT but its the kind of video that never gets old.

Haven't seen that one yet. Thanks for the post; even if it is a re-post!

Awesome video! Someday I need to learn woodworking skills like that.

It is a "Froe" I love woodworking. I however would gladly hike in a modern sluice box vs. the weight of the tools needed to build and time you could spend digging vs. building. I wonder how long it actually took him?

A little over 9 minutes according to the timer on the video. lol
I would love to go prospecting with that guy anytime.

No way in he!! that took nine minutes to build....and with those pickers and not much fine gold it shows doubly he reason to stick with modern technology.

Is there a name for that 90 degree blade he had? I'v never seen it before.

When I was in high school back in the early 80's I would spend my summer cutting shake bolts from downed old growth cedar. In coastal Washington the terrain was rough but we could find and dig out old logs in the forest. I had a big homelite 925 with a 40" bar and would cut them into 24" rounds. Then I would split them up into bolts or chunks about 12' - 18" across using a froe and mallet. Bowling pins made good mallets. I would stack them into piles and loop a rope sling around it and once a week a helicopter would come fly them out to the nearest landing. I got $300 a cord. Made a lot of good money.

9 minutes is insanely fast

it takes me that long to take down a tree at least........with a freshly sharpened axe......
