This old homestead site was dug by the arkies 10 years ago, so anything I find here I feel is a bonus. The site doesn’t look like much from the road and the heavy foliage makes it a challenge to detect at any time except for in the spring, it's the site with the green checkmark on the map. I'm going to investigate the area with the question mark this morning, it's located next to a stream in a ravine.

The grade here slopes to the road, which leads me to think the house was located next to the road and was removed years ago when the road was widened and improved. My first find was a horse rosette with a thin layer of silver over top of either pewter or lead. Next, I found a small square piece of decorated pewter, the edges are serrated and there’s a hole in the top, possibly jewelry? My next find was the most interesting piece of jewelry I’ve ever found, although I’m not sure what it may have been attached to or when it dates from, but I’m thinking the late-Victorian Period. :icon_scratch: Working my way through all the nails here is a real challenge, but the signal came through loud and clear on the Deus. How this beautiful delicate piece of jewelry survived the house being torn down, years of plowing and arkie excavators digging the site I’ll never know.

Just as I found this relic ‘Farmer Don’ came by planting the field with the year’s corn crop. Later, I text Don a pic of the piece, as he’s a history buff like myself and he couldn’t believe I actually found this here. :o

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Wow!! That is awesome!!

Good one dave...that is a special piece for a field find !! Congrats Dave!! I think Victorian also !!

Dave That’s a really nice find.I imagine the owner was complemented all the time wearing that piece.

That little beauty deserves a frame of it's own!

Beautiful find. Whenever I see something like this I can’t help think of all the archaeologists who bicker and fight over the potential timelines of human existence and use of metal tools. As someone who sees a lot of metal come out of the ground it’s fairly clear it really doesn’t seem to last as long as one might think.

Definitely a awesome piece of history saved. I see your dodging the tractors as well ,I will be ousted in a week or so for one site till harvest time.

That's a really beautiful piece. Bet the original owner was a wee bit upset when it went missing. Congrats.

Hi Bart
Thanks for taking the time to post, hope you're having another great year in search of shipwreck treasure.

Thank you my friend, hope you're having another good year in NS so far. :icon_thumleft:

I hear you smallfoot, I'm debating how best to display this piece as well. :icon_scratch:
Keep cool in FLA.

You make a very good point here OGF, delicate metal objects like this won't survive beng in the soil forever. :dontknow:
Years ago, I made it my personal goal to detect as many sites as possible the arkies have dug, as they always miss something good.
Best of luck to you in Ohio.
Dave

Nice One!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks Randy

That's one fancy farmer Bobbydazzler. Very cool!
'Bobbydazzler' :laughing7:.... thanks buddy.
Stay cool my friend.

Thanks for your post CD.
The fields in my part of Southern Ontario are drying up quickly and most will be planted with either beans or corn by the middle of May.
I spoke to 'Farmer Don' yesterday morning and he said, "it's still early for them to be planting, but when the fields are ready they have to go."
Hope you have a great year in IL.
Dave

I have no doubt she must've been upset when she discovered this was missing from her chain. :sadsmiley:
I've actually found a sash buckle and quite a few coins she may have lost here as well.
Thanks for your post, best of luck this year in MA. :icon_thumright:

Really nice recoveries.
Way to go studying the layout of the former home. Beautiful piece, congrats.

Very nice find; interesting too. Looks like it was a beautiful day to be out. Congrats!

Thanks for your post Pete.
Based on where I feel the house was located, I'm thinking this piece of jewelry was lost in the backyard, very close to the tractor plow-line.
Best of luck to you in FLA,
Dave

Nice,, I bet the farmer wishes he had a metal detector,
The funny thing is, he does have a detector but he's too busy to use it or he just doesn't have the patience to learn it. :icon_scratch:
Last fall, I actually took him to another site on his farm where a home had been located, he never knew about that one either.
I felt bad because I found a handful of early 1800s coins, while he dug lots of iron. :sadsmiley:

Hi Steve, thanks for your post.
This house was located across the street from this house which I received permission for last week.
I'm going to head back here on Friday, as the landowner likes to be home while I'm on their property. :laughing7:
Hope you're doing well these days,
Dave

Excellent, Anti. You give me hope buddy. Just keep plucking through the nails, and maybe just maybe, I will find something as cool. Any possibility of you get it fixed up at a jewelers so you can display it around your wife's neck? ♪♪ She might like that. ♪♪:love1:

Could it be a piece to hang off of a chantelaine, like the one lenmac65 just posted? Looks about right size and age. Great find!

Oh I know you're going to find something good this year, you have the same fever as I do. :hello2:
Speaking of 'the fever', I'm getting my Covid vaccination this afternoon.

I'm heading back to this site again tomorrow morning, just hoping I don't experience any side effects.
For the time being this is how it's being displayed... knowing my wife, she'd lose it in no time.
:laughing7:
Take care and say hello to your Dad for me,
Dave

This seems to be the consensus here, that was my first thought when I found it as well.
I still find it hard to believe this piece came out of the ground in relatively good condition, especially considering all of the arkie/excavator activity this site has seen.
Best of luck to you in NW Missouri,
Dave
