I just obtained several morgan silver dollars and the D and S mint marks seem small and light compared to those I have.

What do you guys think?

Well it looks like a very lightly struck D hard to really say though with that picture!

Either my eyes are playing tricks on me but I don't see a mint mark on that coin. It should be just above the D and O in the word Dollar.?

Here are some better shots. They just seem MUCH smaller than the normal sized mint mark.

Both of the Morgans are 1921's. The mint hadn't made silver dollars since 1904 when the Morgans were reinstated, and for whatever reason their large sized mint mark punches were not to be found. Thus, the mint simply used (or created) smaller punches for the mint marks. Most likely they used ones intended for half dollars. This is completely normal, and all 1921 Morgan dollars (from San Fransisco and Denver) have these small mint marks.

Thanks!

I'm so used to the normal earlier dates that it threw me off a litte.
