Hunted around a old house and a 1800's Church last week.

This is a very sad story with a kind of a happy ending.
Dug what looked like heavily rusted piece of round steel - (97-98 on the Deus - but it sounded real nice).
When I got home I did a Magnet test expecting it to be Ferrous metal - but it's not.
Thinking it could be a large Bronze Token or something else worth keeping - I put in the Electrolysis Bath.
Then I started to seeing Silver coming through and the Reeded edge.
Someone drilled a hole in this coin and I'm guessing it must have been in a house fire ?
But I did get very lucky in one way ... the only readable detail on this coin is the date - 1880.
Also, a few stars on either side of the date are still visible - (see photo of no dug coin).
Wow ... talk about good luck and bad luck being wrapped up in one find !

1880 - Morgan Dollar - (with severe fire damage)
1906 - Indian Cent
1928 - Buffalo Nickel
Small Sterling Silver Ring - (with the Zodiac sign Aquarius)

Good Hunting !

E track. , I would jump for joy. I bet nobody has an 1880 Morgan like .that....with just the date showing do you think the bubbling was done on purpose ?

Still silver though even if it got crispy. House fire seams reasonable. The 1935 merc I found at at home site I know burnt down had a less severe case of blisters on it. It still has details so it wasn't directly in the fire but got hot.

ALL in all it is still a fantastic find buddy :) CONGRATS !!!!

Hey bring that with you today and let me and Dan see it IRL

I just added a photo to my original post of a non dug 1880 Morgan.
If you look at the closeup of my coin you can still see four or five Stars on either side of the date.

Great find and it still counts!!!! Congratz

That's a cool recovery of the toasted Morgan silver.
Have you weighed it as of yet-just wondering how much has been lost to the fire vs the true weight of a Morgan.
