Can anyone give me what the graded state would be, and a approximate value? I tried to get the best picture I could. When taking the photo"s there is not any of that brownish tint.

Well, it certainly isn't mint state, there is definitely wear on the cheek, hair and eagle. I would say it is probably in the vf35 details range, but it also looks like it has been cleaned.

Definitely looks cleaned by the hairline scratches throughout the field. Too much wear on the breast feathers of the eagle and hair curl above the ear.

It is a better date and does have value substantially over melt. My opinion of grade would be XF, but, it also looks cleaned to me and that would probably drop value by around half.

A decent way to check on this type of thing for a novice, in addition to asking on Forums, is to check on ebay, especially completed auctions that have sold. Type in 1903-S Morgan and look at examples that have been certified by firms such as PCGS and NGC (not that they don't make mistakes). You'll be able to compare the pictures of these certified coins to yours in hand and form an idea as to grade. The sold price will give you an idea of current market value. Cleaning can be harder to learn as well as being more difficult for the owner of the coin to accept, remain objective.

It is one to try to get correct though as the value spread is significant.. The listed "value" in the Red Book of that coin in VF is 10% of AU.

If it was in a Plastic Case, What Type ?
do you have it yet ?

If it was a Professional Graders Case,
you should have left it in & Perhaps
it's just your Photos that are loosing some detail.
& the Scratces may be Mint Bag marks.

Should have no problem bringing $1800

even in VF-20 it's a $160.00 coin

This coin has not been professionaly graded, but I plan on doing that. This is what the coin was in when I got it. Old digger.

That is not a professional grading company holder, but a homemade one.

This is a tough one for me as the value spread is just so great between a few grades for this issue. After looking at the new photos I'm sticking with my grading and cleaning assessment as posted above though.

For me, and I'm not in the market, if I were considering the purchase of your coin I'd be in the $125-150 range, max. It may appeal to another collector more and they may see double that.

And as Jeff said above, retail listing for an actual AU example is $1,800. So you may want to find a dealer in your area that can examine the coin in hand and offer an opinion with that benefit (actually holding the coin).

Better photos! It no longer looks like your coin is gold plated.
