More than Gold in Creeks

I just read in the latest Northern Miner(Oct 21 - 27) prospector Joe Leadbetter had been panning gravels in a small creek north of Wawa Ontario where he recovered 3 diamonds, one being 1.39 carats and gem quality. Looking for the source the following spring he panned and worked his way up the creek where he thought he found the kimberlite outcrop, however, only later to find it was not. With further searching he did find the host rock where some sample drilling had begun. Obviously, the area was extensively staked. The outcome of the drilling proved the area was rich in diamonds.
So, maybe you might want to check your pan a little more closely before discarding anything. :)
