Here are some more Rev/Civil War digs from South Carolina.

We would like to know if any of these could be Rev. War artifacts or if they're mostly Civil War...or whatever.

We really want to know what those round lead balls are that have the holes in them. There are loads of these at these sites.

Also there are lots of buttons like the one shown here that are silvered. What? Who? When? Some of these buttons have a gold finish.

Thanks

Thanks, bryan.

I can find a photo of this type of shot online but that's all there is is a picture...no text.

I'm thinking it's maybe a type of ball used by the British during the Rev. War? I could be wrong.

I say this because many early British half pennies also were taken from these sites. Most were worn about like they would have been in the 1770's.

Hey badger nice finds. The flat button your holding with the solid shank I find alot of those at early 1800's homesteads. I would put a date of about 1810 to 1820 or 30 on the button.

I would say it's shortly after the rev but a good bit before the civil war. I love those buttons. And when your finding those goodies are usually right around the corner.

Are you finding these grape shot with holes through them? I've seen pictures of these before but can't track down the history on them. They're like pull tabs in those areas.

What kind of coin is that? I can only dream of a site like you have. Nice post Badger.

It's most likely a British Half Penny something like this one.

You know due to the location that does make sense.

However, I was just going to post that a guy emailed me and wrote that the leads with holes were "clean outs" used in the Revolutionary War. ??? Now I have to write him back and find out what the heck a "clean out" is. He told me they are "definitely Rev. War era."

I've seen photos of these online along with lead balls without holes at Revolutionary War sites. Maybe they played a double role in life? From the fishing scene to the battle field?

The more I learn about these relics the more I'm beginning to realize this is a very controversial subject. ;D

Thanks for the info.
