I've been back to the campgrounds three times since my last post, and got silver on two of these outings.
On the first outing, I got skunked on the silver, but in addition to the clad coinage and trash, I did find this little friend...
The next outing was last Saturday, and my son Kenny went with me. After a while in the field, I got that sweet high tone with the cursor of my Explorer II buried in the upper right corner of the screen.
The next really good signal I got turned out to be a small metal hanger from a boy scout medal. I knew this because I had found one once before. When I found the hanger that hooks on a shirt button, I knew there should be a tiny little sterling arrow nearby, so I went carefully over the hole and surrounding area until a few inches away I got a slight iffy high tone. BINGO, there was the little sterling arrow from an Order of the Arrow ribbon (pics towards end of post).
Then it was my son's turn, with a silver rosie (no pics of this one). Then my turn again, with a little bigger silver staring up at me...
Then it was Kenny's turn again, with a Merc...
So here are my finds from last Saturday's outing all cleaned up...
Then on Tuesday I went back to the same site but different area by myself as Kenny was in school. Here is a picture of the spot where I found my first good find...
And this is what I found there...
After about an hour of clad and other odds and ends, I got another sweet silver reading...
And not long after that and pretty close by, another...
And then about 30 minutes later, I got a nice Merc of my own...
Now some of you may have seen my post from about a week ago where I said I'd been wanting to find a 1949/1950 Statue of Liberty campaign neckerchief slide, and I'd finally found one. Well, go figure - within two weeks I've found my second one...
Here are the total finds from Tuesday's hunt...
I have been hitting this campground area hard - on average one to two times per week for 4 or 5 hours each time - since last summer. I thought it would be fun to show all of the silver I've found there since I started hunting it...
And man oh man, I go crazy over those reeded edges. Nothing better in my book than seeing a bright silver reeded edge staring out of a clump of dark soil (unless of course it is a bright gold reeded edge, and yes I have had the pleasure of seeing that one time in my life about six years ago). Here are those beautiful reeded edges from this particular site...
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed yet another very long post from me - I haven't heard any complaints yet, so I'll keep 'em coming.
Happy Hunting,
Jim
