I went back to the site that I searched on July 4th (See More Road Construction Finds) to see what else this site would give up.
There was at least 14 blocks of sidewalks removed from both sides of the street. Unfortunately, the downtown business district, and about 6-7 blocks to the south, had way too much sand (fill) to get to the coins that must have been there. The blocks to the north had very little sand and the boulivards were scrapped about 6 inches deep.
While driving the 150 miles to get to the site, I was hoping that the area had a little rain. It has been extremly dry here. It started to rain about 20 miles before I got to the site and continued untill I arrived. Then it quit. I got out of the car to evaluate the scene. They had a lot of rain! There were gigantic puddles all over, BUT, I remembered to bring my boots .
Had a lot of fun, got good and dirty. and found the following:
1 Barber quarter.
1 Barber dime.
1 Seated Lib. dime.
1 Standing Lib. quarter (no date)
1 Shield nickel (no date)
6 Indian head cents.
3 Tokens. (2 of them were better Brunswick & Balke Collander Co. pieces)
A bunch of older wheats. (No rare dates, but early dates)
Here are some of the pics:
