after getting poision oak on one trip then getting bitten by fire ants on this one God do i love this hobby lol. couldn't stay away from the park. Went back for a few hours and heres what i found. the tags are i think miner ID tags but whats odd is they both had something on the back that looked like a pin or something. I have found ID tags before and they were also a heaver metal. So not sure if there real or what. thanks and HH

Nice finds. I've seen those numbered tags used to mark keys such as for a fleet of vehicles.

typically those number tags are placed on hand valves for identification purposes. This way an engineer or service technician can look at a schematic and find the right valve to close or open and ID it by number tag. Thats what i believe you've got there anyhow.

Great job! Nice finds

Good finds...here in the coal fields those are called mine checks...used to get a light to go in the mines with and as a personal check...HH...Don

If the park use to be an industrial site the tags could be from the tool crib. JIM

your tags are

actually tree tags/markers. Next time you're in the park, check out the large tree's at about eye level. You should be able to see some...or at least they were once marked. They are pretty common and still used. Probably not too old.
