After picking up 5g of 18k at an estate sale on Saturday, I stopped by a chain thrift store that I visit maybe 2-3 times a month at most. I was going through the brooches to buy(I put them in lots and sell them) and picked one that looked like possible gold. It had an area that looked like the gold rubbed off and I turned it over to see the maker..."14k A80". For 75 cents, it was worth taking a chance. I figured it was a fake piece that someone glued a real gold tag onto. Had it checked out on a machine and acid tested. 14K! 30 grams! Before I took the brooch for testing, I was going through my other pins and noticed a pocket watch that I took from a Goodwill jar a few weeks ago. Figured it was gold filled but didn't recall opening it. Opened it and it was marked "14K Solidarity". It's a Waltham 1900 engraved "To Blanche from Aunt Blanche". It weighs 32g with movement. I'm meeting a fellow picker tomorrow and selling the watch for $200, the 18k medallion for $130, and the brooch for $625.00. All under spot, but no eBay fees or future taxes! And we both make money.
