sweet, i just usually ask to exchange it for a newer one as most clerks don't like the old bill and think they're fake.

Great find!!!! But....you made a HUGE mistake. Should've had the wife pay with the $20 while you went after the old man, chances are he has a stash at home or a safety deposit box filled with old cash. Wheel and deal with him for some more oldies. ( by wheel and deal I DONT mean cheat him out of it)

There does seem to be more older bills surfacing now days. Guess some retired people are dipping into the mattress savings to make ends meet.

Too bad it isn't a silver certificate! Note to self: follow old people into stores, carry large bills. WaiT! I -AM- old!!! I'm gonna check my wallet, now...

yeah..I would have asked the old man....he might have bugged out.....who knows.....I always read these stories....whenever I get silver in change...(rarely) - I ask the cashier to look for more...got a couple more dimes that way.......

I stopped by an old man's farm years ago to collect some money he owed me, found him in the barn behind a pile of old moldy hay.

He didn't farm any more, the hay really stunk like he had just stirred it up, he hand me some old c notes.

They were from the 30's, slightly moldy, and stunk just like that hay. I thought if some thing happened to the old guy, I would check it out, and then a year later his barn burned down.

Yep. A guy I worked with once was telling me how when his Grandmother passed they inherited a safety deposit box. OK. Turns out it had 2,000.00 in cash from the 1930's ....

I have an aunt who bought a few fake flower pots from a death estate sale. Turns out the old lady hid a few hundreds in the bottom. Aunt is a big holy roller, brought the money back to the family. Never know where people hide things.

I usually swipe a card and push a bunch of buttons. Could this be why I never get change back?

I'm lucky my wife was with me she also keeps a eye out for the old stuff it took year of training for her to spot the good stuff its now paying off

It happens a lot... this one time someone stole 5 silver certificates out of my purse and bought beer with them... I was super pissed!

Were they in the same household or something?

i think maybe the old man might be getting in to his piggy bank.....
