Funny, a few days back I posted a pic of a box of marbles in the original store display box. I had that box for years. Today, I got another just like it...maybe even a little better. Check it out...100 mint corkscrews, many in desireable color combinations, all in the original box!

Here's the link to the first post when I pictured the other box. They are almost exact matches.http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,141630.0.html

Beautiful. Seeing them sure brings back good memories. Thanks for sharing. I was in need of thoughts of happier times tonight. :)

Anytime Pepper! Thankfully, I came in right before the demise of marbles as an American pastime. I got to win a few marbles from my friends, and visa-versa, before the sport ended. My mom gave me hers when I was a kid, and that's what started the collecting. It wasn't that long ago, but the world sure seemed a lot different back then.

A beautiful set! And of course, old memories of days long ago when my buddies and I spent many afternoon hours squatting in the dirt. I remember a game called 5-hole that we played. Basically, shooting your marble into the holes in the designated pattern. Keep going until you miss. Similar to around-the-word on the basketball court or croquet. When teachers weren't looking we would play "guess hand" gambling where many marbles were won and lost (mostly lost). With marbles hidden in closed fists, all those with extended fists in the huddle would try to guess the total and the winner (or closest) would win them all. Today the Nintendo and GameBoy have replaced these treasured arts.

I'm completely marble-tarded... but when DuffyTrash see's these I bet he comments...

Very nice!

Wow nice find!!!

Too bad kids don't play marbles anymore, unless they have it for PlayStation, XBox, Wii, PSP, or Nintendo DS...bet they'd play it THEN

Gee Whiz man! How in the world do you find this stuff?

Maybe one day I will be as good a treasure hunter as you are.

Congrats on the marbles.

Garsh, sumbuddy gonna spill da beans an sey how old thay arr, lol.

It was going out of style around here when I was a kid and I'm fixin to be 48 in a few months. I sure do miss those days. Some boys really had a good aim and could shoot a marble like they had thrown it, lol...

Very nice marbles you got there. Very nice indeed!!!

I think after finding three marbles in one hole the other day. I'm going to change me prefix to "Marble Hunter".

Haha. Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks for the comments! I don't know how old they are. I haven't researched them that far, but I think they are from around the 20s-30s. It seems that this was a store display box, and the marbles were sold individually out of the box??? I figure that since the included postcard is for agreeing to accept promotional items from akro.

These came from the same place my other box came from, and this is the last of them. Believe it or not, they were obtained by my mother for $20.00 a box!!! She gave me one box years ago, and the other box just now. The latest value I got was up to $1500 a box (thanks Duffy). I'm not selling though..... My mother is so proud to be able to give these to me that I couldn't sell them...and if that wasn't the case, I still like them too much to let 'em go. :)
