When you say "scoop-like", you mean like a stone gouge?? I show a gouge from Maine in the Northeastern Hardstone 2: Gouges thread for reference.

Charl when I say scoop-like they have that shovel looking end. not channeled they look like spades

You have some nice looking stone tools. They are in cases? Are these pics from your home or a Museum? Maybe you work there.

No rock my collection is on loan to a cultural center in newport maine.my illinois collection was heavily damaged in a house fire after I moved to maine.this is a win win situation for everyone.Safe storage for me and they get a display.google fishweir newport maine.

They have an interesting display there showing different stakes from the weir. Some were sharpened with gouges the other ones with axes.while I have found a variety of gouges which were said to be used earlier than the axes.I've yet to find any axes.

hello!
i recently picked up a rock in Maine and immediately felt it was a tool by the way it fit into my grip so perfectly. there is a notch that 'cups' my hand and the side by my palm is polished flat and smooth. it almost feels like there is little groove for each of my fingers to grip.
would anyone be able to tell me if this is a stone tool?
it was found at the foot of Houston Falls in Pleasant Ridge. i would like to know more about the petroglyphs in that area if anyone knows about them.
looking through the internet, i was also surprised to find this stone is shaped like a controversial stone called the 'spirit stone' which i read was a hoax rune. it does seem like there are some 'patterns' cut out on this stone..i saw someone posted one with similar x es that was intriguing.

i made a gif with shots from all sides:

thanks for your time! i really enjoy looking through the photos of everyone's finds..i had no idea that perhaps some of the stones i have picked up were tools!
holding this stone makes me feel connected to a person who lived long ago!

You will get more responces to your particular questions if you start your own thread about them. Welcome to Treasurenet.
