Mine was found on the river(salt water) and in a little pit in the clay covered with sand, and on top of a bed of old nails. So the rust from the nails leached out on the button bad.
But I boiled it on the stove like all copper things I find Peroxide. To remove the dirt and crud. Then took it out and some people soak in lemon juice but I just sit there with some double ended q-tips and dip them in the juice and just keep at it tell the q-tip comes back clean. Also that way it's in your hand were you can tell what's happing to it,and can stop when you like or see it starting to have a bad effect.Yours I wouldn't think would take long as mine had the tough rust stuck to it.Just keep watching the guilt and make sure your not starting to take it of.That flower would come back good I think from it's look already. The staff may not have any guilt left but you will tell once you start. When done rinse in distilled water if you can.
Good Luck,Take Care,& FIND some more GOODIES! :hello:

This was it before I started the lemon juice. That rust was a job. :D
