Went back to the scout camp today to do a little detecting before the campers arrive next week. Went back to try and finish the hillside I started last time. I managed 85 coins in 4 hours totaling $8.11. I found a usable knife (unusual, they usually are rusted shut) one sinker, the end of a bollo tie, a stainless spinner ring, a cob copy and an old style belt buckle (they changes the style of official belt buckle in 2010).

I find the cob copies fairly often as they sell them in the trading post to the cubs as pirate loot during the pirate theme weeks at camp. When you first see one in the hole its like WOW I found a cob, but then you look and see it is the exact same shape and design as others you have found and you drift back to earth. I have managed 2 real cobs in my 16 years of detecting and the first one was actually found at a different scout camp. It is located about a mile as the crowe flies from an old trading post from the 1700’s.

And no trip to the scout camp would be complete without my tent peg count. 19 for today plus one “BIG BERTHA” (not in the picture). They are 14” long and 1 inch in diameter with a tapered end and a code number stamped into the side.

The photo below is a BERTHA and other bigger pegs from past hunts. (BIG BERTHA is on the top)

Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.

Congratulations, great finds.

Virgin scout camps are incredible!

In 1983 my brother-in-law was the headmaster at scout camp in Ohio.

There I found a whole lot of scout stuff.

And coins.... The oldest an 1894 Indian Head penny. One time I hit 22 straight silver dimes. Another time a coin stack - a Franklin, two Washington quarters. and a couple of silver dimes - all coins were silver. Wheats out of the park. At the time I worked regular overtime at Fermi II Atomic Power Plant, lived in an apartment and swung a Garret Master Hunter Deepseeker ADS III.

I managed to purchase that same model on TNet a year or so ago. I've a copy of each detector I used back then. Divorce, a very hectic and demanding world, and many other things forced me out of the hobby back then.

Scout camps are GREAT, but your personal ethics should dictate that you have verified permission to hunt those sites.

I have permission to hunt the Camp. The staff is in Camp and most have seen me there many times before. The quartermaster loves me because of all the lost tent pegs I return to them.

The Camp you hunted sounds amazing. Unfortunately the Camp I am detecting opened in 1980. So while I am finding lots and lots of coins and scout stuff I find very little silver and all that is from the farm the Camp was built on.

Thanks for your reply and keep swingin.

Hi, wow nice hunt with some nice finds. Congrats:icon_thumleft: I love the belt buckle and the copy cob.

Another great hunt at the Scout camp, congratulations! :occasion14:
