Went back to the scout camp today to do a little detecting before the campers arrive next week. Went back to try and finish the hillside I started last time. I managed 85 coins in 4 hours totaling $8.11. I found a usable knife (unusual, they usually are rusted shut) one sinker, the end of a bollo tie, a stainless spinner ring, a cob copy and an old style belt buckle (they changes the style of official belt buckle in 2010).
I find the cob copies fairly often as they sell them in the trading post to the cubs as pirate loot during the pirate theme weeks at camp. When you first see one in the hole its like WOW I found a cob, but then you look and see it is the exact same shape and design as others you have found and you drift back to earth. I have managed 2 real cobs in my 16 years of detecting and the first one was actually found at a different scout camp. It is located about a mile as the crowe flies from an old trading post from the 1700’s.
And no trip to the scout camp would be complete without my tent peg count. 19 for today plus one “BIG BERTHA” (not in the picture). They are 14” long and 1 inch in diameter with a tapered end and a code number stamped into the side.
The photo below is a BERTHA and other bigger pegs from past hunts. (BIG BERTHA is on the top)
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
