Went back to the swimming area today and gridded the second half. Very different from the half I did on Monday (see “5 rings, some gold and silver from the water plus weekend finds”). Today no rings or earrings and no silver, but I did score 2 golds, a real nice one and one that is kind of gross. You probably guessed it, gold dental work, a 4 tooth partial with 10k gold framing the outer 2 teeth.
I spent 3.5 hours in the water with the ATPro and did find 32 coins with a face value of $2.02, a few tabs, a little foil, a hair clip, another zipper pull, sinkers, earring backs, and the goodies.
The other gold is a 14k ID bracelet that belongs to Ashley. The link on one end of the ID plate pulled open and that’s how it got lost. I got a 34-38 on the VDI on the AT and was thinking it was probably a small earring or earring back. I took a modest scoop, checked the hole and it was still in there. Took another bigger scoop and it was still in the hole so I took a hefty scoop and there it was shiny and beautiful. It was down about 6 inches which is fairly deep for this swimming hole. The bottom is usually a 1 to 4 inch layer of sand over hardpacked gravel and clay. The bracelet is not very heavy, .12 Troy ounces or 3.5 grams and there is very little gold in the teeth. But any gold is good and I have been luck lately. Next week I start cleaning up the state parks after Labor Day when we can get the OK to detect. Let’s see if my luck holds.
Does anybody know that this is? I have been finding them in the water a lot lately. This one is chrome colored and a lot of them look like brass. It looks like it is part of an electrical connection of some sort, but I really don’t have a clue.
After the water I went to the houses owned by the city and started gridding the first yard. I found a WW1 collar disc and an indianhead last time and was hoping for some silver this time. No such luck. I did find 43 coins with a face value of $2.53, a busted up toy car made in Thialand, a squashed penny, a coal mine chit and a clay pipe stem.
The house was built in 1925 so the pipe stem is a surprise. Chits are a common find in this area because of all the coal mines. I did finally find 4 wheat pennies in the yard, 1936, 1942, 1952D, 1955D.
A nice little gold bracelet (I will check to see if it was reported lost), gas money, and more interesting finds. Another good day swingin and diggin. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
