Re: More from the popcorn can's

Possible needle sharpening stone for old phonograph . Or just a pocket knife sharpner.

Re: More from the popcorn can's

Very cool find

Below attached ....The Pike Manufacturing Company made a worldwide reputation by selling scythe stones quarried from natural deposits near Pike, a village in the Town of Haverhill.

The first mill of Isaac Pike was built in 1823 on a small stream that fed Oliverian Brook, about one-half mile from the present village of Pike on Brushwood Road. The building still stands and was owned by Pauline Tobey and is now owned by Pauline and Steve Corzilius.

I think a small stone like that would be a razor hone. You know, for those straight razors. A strop would be used too. That's a neat box to keep it in!

Very cool find!!!

It's pretty interesting that they incoporated a pike into their logo!!! it looks like the company made all kinds of shapenting stones. I'd go along with the phonograph needle whetstone because of its size.

I'm curious...was the dime in there too?

WTG on the peculiar find!

Re: More from the popcorn can's

I am not far from Pike, NH. From what I have been told, it is not too uncommon to find sharpining stones laying arround on the ground. An older guy that I used to work with ( He is retired now ) said that he has found several "stones" in the Pike area while fishing.

Re: More from the popcorn can's

Nice "Pocket Stone". Is it single sided (same grit size on both sides), or double (different grit on opposite side)? It's too small a stone for razors, but ideal to throw in your tool box to sharpen small knives or other small cutting tools.

I think it would go equally well in your tackle box.

Nothing new to add, except don't let it go unused. It would be a shame to let one that nice sit around and gather dust. If you don't know how to use a stone; there are many tutorials on line. Bluezman

Re: More from the popcorn can's

OK .
The stone is the same on both sides ( single sided)
The dime was only for size reference
and yes , I know how to cut a good edge

If you don't know how to use a stone;
