More finds from yesterday. A couple that need ID

Hi all!

Here are the rest of the items that I found yesterday. I nice assortment of knick knacks. ha ha.

The knife handle is huge. Weighs 58 g. I can see that it's silver plated (layer is peeling in one place), but it's a hefty handle. There is still wood left on the end of it, which I think is cool. Any idea how I would date this?

I found some weird piece of copper that was obviously part of something in the past. It's also quite large. If anyone knows what it's for, please let me know!

Lastly, there is this coin. It's slightly smaller in diameter than the NJ copper (26 mm), about the thickness of a quarter, and weighs far about 4 g. It also rings up weird on my CTX (11:20). On one face (first picture), I can barely make out a "9" with a fairly solid horizontal line right above it. Can anyone help me ID this coin? Any eagle eye experts out there?

Looks like a 20th century British halfpenny. The placement of the "9" (if I am seeing the same thing you are) would suggest that the date starts with "19", and I think I see the trident spikes in the appropriate spot. Further than that I don't know, that coin is worse than some of the 18th century coppers I see on here. Good little hunt though.

Sometimes holding the coin at arms length can help. I was just able to identify a U.S. Large Cent that I found 3 wks. ago. It was very worn like yours, & looking at it with a magnifying glass didn't help. When I finally thought to hold it away from me, I could see the head & front part of the profile outline of a large cent.

Holy crap. david680 is REALLY good! Yep, that's exactly what that coin is. I can see the NNY of "Penny" on the one side, and I can see the head on the other side.

That is AWESOME. Thanks!

FYI - The flatware handle has the name "Gorham" at the base. I looked them up, but haven't found a match yet.

It looks like you found a good spot, the finds keep on coming. Cool coin, at first glance I was almost sure that was a colonial copper!
