Went to an old park today that had produced some good silver for me and others in the past. The ground out in the open was pretty much frozen. So, naturally I went into the woods which surround the park. There are a lot of woods around here. After all, it is Pennsylvania (Penn's Woods). There was a frozen 1/2 inch crust in spots, but mostly the ground in the woods was soft and very diggable. Found a nice assortment of things.
Found some coins, including a silver quarter and a couple wheaties.

Also found a Sunoco antique car token and three amusement tokens.

Also found two Boy Scout bolos, a cell phone, parts of car and airplane toys and an old fashioned bottle opener that says "spin to see who pays."

Hi:
New to this hobby and have yet to get my metal detector, have hinted to my wife that I want one for my birthday. My question is how do you go about getting permission from the park to use you MD? Some people stated that they just go out and nothing has ever happened to them. I just want to do the right thing and not ruin this hobby for anyone else.

Sincerely,
Southern_Boy

I've found several of those Sonoco tokens. I think a lot ended up in the pockets of kids and were toted around where they could be lost.

Call the town or county parks department. I got permission at a local park I hunt on my lunchbreak by showing the parks superintendant a three gallon pail half full of bottle caps, glass, wire, a couple old razor blades strategically on the top. Of course, I had to wait days until I saw his town vehicle at the maintenance shed and just happened to have a bucket of collected trash in my car when I sauntered over to ask permission. I promised to pick up EVERYTHING that was metal trash that I dug (including foil) and replace my divots and leave no turned dirt. In the long run it works as the ground stays clear for faster future sweeps. But the summer carnival means starting all over again. ;)
