I drove back down to Massachusetts Friday after work to try my luck at the 1660 homesite where I found the 1652 Pine Tree Threepence last Sunday ( http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...ree-threepence-more-virgin-1660-homesite.html ). I didn't have as much luck this time, but still did alright. I found 3 silver coins, but no old ones. I also managed 3 coppers. A 169* William III, 1748 KGII, and a 1819 Large Cent. I think my coolest find was the 5 cent trade token. I don't know how old it is, so if anyone has any info, please share. Also found a silver plated ornate decorative metal piece that looks pretty old. A large lead disc with scalloped edges, an ox knob, and 1900's razor were some other interesting bits. I'll try to get some pictures of the rest of what I found once it's rinsed off.

Still decent, and just hunting that site is a high on its own because you know any target can be another Mass silver.

If you can see it's 1600s for sure.. it has to be 1699.

If you can confirm your date is below Britannia and not the legend date on the side, and see it's 1600s for sure.. it has to be 1699.

I think you're right on with 1699.

The site is really interesting. The current house is Georgian period, and it's the third house built on the site. If facing the house from the road, the woods to the right is where I've found mostly earlier items, 1600's-1750 or so. The area to the left is mostly 1800-1900. It seems like it could just as easily produce an early US silver as it could a cob or another Mass silver. I'd be happy with any.

Yes if you see the 16... it's definitely 1699. (only 1600s year the for 3rd issue)

Great hunt man. That William 3rd half penny is a great find. A 1695 W3 happens to be my oldest copper. Even though it didn't turn out quite like you wanted it's good to know what was remaining after your last hunt.

Cheers

thanks Scrappy. I know there is still a lot to find there. I started to go real slow and dig the deepest blips of a signal, and that's how I found the William III and KG 2. The owners are difficult to get in touch with, but I think I have a good chance of getting permission to do the lawn. The concentration of 1600's and early 1700's finds increased the closer I got to the edge of the lawn.

:thumbsup:Nice Job! Nice to have a property to hunt that's that early. HH

Congrats on the great finds! Feel free to leave a few for us Mass boys & gals!!

Group shot of the coins and smaller relics from the site so far (not pictured are a couple wheaties, an Indian head cent and about 50 rotten zincolns.

This is brooch was found in a large dump site across from a 1800's mansion about 1/2 mile from the Pine Tree Threepence site. The dump site was also a 1600's homesite, but it's 5 feet thick of Victorian era debris. Any thoughts on its age? I'm assuming Victorian or early 20th Century.

Some more nice finds Jason. I can only imagine the anticipation you must have had when you went to detect there again. Hope you get permission to search the yard and make some more great finds. Good luck.

Another great hunt, I'm sure the level of excitement each time you get there will keep it interesting

I agree with previous comments, hunting that site is a thrill in and or itself! So lucky to have found such a historic spot to hunt! Hope you find many more artifacts and share their stories with us :D :treasurechest::thumbsup:

Awesome digs from a very sweet site. I hope you get to detect around the house. You certainly pulled a fist full of keepers from that hunt.
