Buttons galore for you button lovers! I set a personal record by digging 283 buttons this trip. I didn't save them all, of course, since most were plain flat buttons that were broken, but, I kept the ones in the photo, which is about 90 buttons. There were a few with interesting patterns and military insignia on them. Also found a personal record of 4+ watch winders and 4 thimbles. One is silver, but, unfortunately plow damaged.

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Well done on the winders and thimbles. I see a silver one and an open top or it just worn/broken?
That's a lot of buttons dug Mark, then again the button competition was amazing for the season total.

I remember the one Abby where the buttons in the one back corner of the field was crazy amount.
I finally gave up and went out to dig something else.
Next team-a fellow dug one of the oldest Romans out of the button patch.

AMAZING post :) How many diggers did you wear out digging all those buttons ? LOL

Thanks everyone! There were all sorts of other misc stuff I found too. Here's a sample....from pipe stems, to buckles, to a complete working crotal bell, to a huge shot gun shell casing, an old pin fired one, etc.

More England stuff....lead seals and copper coins (greenies). I had at least a dozen more old coins, but, they were so smooth I couldn't even get a shadow of an image on them, let alone a date, so, they got dumped. Some of these might suffer the same fate once I get them home and cleaned a bit.

Cool finds. Did you just take them home in your carry on or did you have them in your packed luggage?

That's a very impressive haul of buttons! You did super well for yourself. One of these years I hope to make the pilgramage to England too....here's to hoping.

These finds are still in England going through the evaluation and export process. I brought last springs finds home with me though. I put them in my carry-on. On a side note, the inspectors at the airport were non too happy to see some of the stuff in my bag of finds. With heightened security going on, they were inspecting things very closely. Well, in my bag of finds, I had an old crusty and dirt filled toy cannon barrel. You would have thought I was trying to take a nuke onboard. I spent an extra hour in secondary before a supervisor with some sense made the decision to let me keep it and go on my way. Jeeez, they let people on board with metal canes, snow boards, and other similar stuff, but, a toy cannon barrel 5 inches long is alarming? What's the difference in that over a ball point pen or e-cigarette? One of the security people told me....."don't ever bring that into England again". I could barely keep from laughing when I told her I didn't, that I found it there and had the export documents (that I'd already shown her 3 times) in hand to prove it. She was incredulous and dumb-struck with an absolutely stunned look on her face. What kind of idiots are running these airports? Next time, ANYTHING that looks dangerous in any way is going in my checked bag.
