More CW Find's Today....

Today I went up to one of the farm's at Antietam...yesterday "jmginmd" took his father-in-law up here while I was hunting with "tymcmurray" at a different site. They ended up with four .54 Sharp's.Today myself and jmg went up to the same spot,he ended up with another .54 and a stud.I looked across the field and headed over to a spot where (at the time) Cpt. John A. Tompkin's had spent the rest of the day after expendng over a thousand round's from his artillery during the Battle....Never could really find out excactly where he was until today,at least I think....Still the usual farm field find's but someone has to get them out of the way.Thank's for Looking!!...

Beside's the junk I ended up with these bullet's,couple different type's...need to look them up,along with a squashed "stud" and what look's to be a pistol bullet...bad shape to determine the cal......All in all had a great CW weekend for once.HH All!!

Excellent finds! Wish we had places like that around here.

Re: More CW Find's Today....

Great finds, nice going!

Re: More CW Find's Today....

Yeap, that squashed "stud" is a belt rivet. Check out a Civil War era belt and you will find that these are what the use. I have found several of different sizes a well. Good finds, you had a good weekend ;)

I guess I better start saving those too. I've been tossing them, not knowing what they were. Whoops. :o :'( Thanks for the info Josh.

Re: More CW Find's Today....

Nice finds CM---Those bullets are in good shape.

Re: More CW Find's Today....

i think the rivet/stud is from horse tack ???
ive found a bit of those over the last 2 weeks in 2 separate fields
close to each other but 1000 feet away :-\
most still have leather around the "collar"

Re: More CW Find's Today....

No actually they are from soldiers belts...but they did make similar ones for horse tack albeit bigger sized....but the ones that MM was finding are swordbelt stud keepers from soldiers belts and leather goods...I will include a pic from a dealer and his link below:

http://www.civilwaroutpost.com/dugrelics.htm----Scroll down a bit and you will see them. Sell for 6.50
