I hit the woods again behind my apartment today and found these casings and this jax piece next to an old tree stump that was cut down many years ago and found the bullet over the next hill. The bullet fits perfectly into the casings. I think they are 45-70 casings , am I right ? I also think I remember reading on here that printing on the casings told the approx. date of manufacture , is that right? The letters and numbers on the casing are WCC and 77. Thank you for the ID help, you guys are great at this and I learn so much from you.

The casings are modern. Maybe .44 or .38 Can you post a pic of the side of the bullet as it looks older than the casings.

Lucas got it right, they are 45 ACP. The letters/number stand for Winchester Cartridge Corporation, the 77 means they were manufactured in 1977.

Good old military ammo for the model Colt Model 1911, 45 caliber automatic pistol.

After cleaning it looks like it has a copper jacket on it

Sorry it isn't as old as I thought. It's a more modern bullet but I don't know what kind. I'm sure someone on here will know though.

Have you checked to see the diameter of the bullet? I don't recall seeing a copper jacketed bullet with grease grooves. I have seen a copper "washed " or copper clad .38 caliber bullet once made for the .38 special back in the 1950s by Remington if my memory serves me. Monty
