More 1850's fort mystery items

Here are a couple more items found at the same fort where the mystery lead item came from. The brass item with the 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 markings I am guessing could be something for measuring gun powder? It appears to be broken and missing parts. The other items are also made of brass and appear to be a small handle from something or a pull tab of some kind to maybe open cans? One has rust on the end and may have been attached to a can or other ferrous item. Many of the relics found at this site are Civil War era and I'm guessing these are too. Any Civil War relic experts....help me ID these items please!

Re: More 1850's fort mystery items

Welcome to the forum,Ifyndit. What you have there is a shot measure for a muzzleloading shotgun. Used by bird hunters not soldiers, they mostly came from England or elsewhere in Europe. I've used one with my reproduction shotgun, and they work well. The brass parts are attached to a leather or brass flask which holds a couple of pounds of shot. Just push the button and it measures out either 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 ounces of shot, which is then poured down the barrel. Of course you need to pour the powder in first and a wad over the powder, then the shot, then another wad to keep the shot from running out. The photo might show what all your parts are there.

Re: More 1850's fort mystery items

Thank you and thanks for the picture of what it would have looked like! This item was found about 10 years ago and has been in my bag of UFO's (unidentified found objects). Knowing it wasn't trash I had to keep it. Now the mystery is solved!
