Nice one on the hammered Cru :icon_thumleft:. We had heavy rain on and off all day here, now it's a drizzle. If it's drier tomorrow I'll go out for an hour or two and see what the field decides to give me :tongue3:

I have had lots of hammered from the No.1 Field (33 this year) but that is now out of bounds. The options now are very limited, most of our land has already got planted crop. This field has only produced 1 last year, 2 the year before that & 1 on the first year. So with this one its 5 in 4 years. Plus previous years we spent far more time on this land. So to find this one on land we have gone over (same area) for 4 years & still get 1 is a bonus. Because its mostly Roman Coins - 350+.

The hammered looks like an Edward I, York Mint. Why do you think Cologne? Did they make sterling imitations?

Had lots of Henry III, they seem to be nearly as common as Elizabeth I. However, I have never had a full Penny of 'Gilbert' (Moneyer) of Canterbury (Mint)

Nice haul on the Romans! HH, Mike

That was the plan, should be well on target for our best year for Bronze

You English should stop posting and making the rest of us feel so bad, with our two silver dimes. Do you really enjoy breaking our hearts? I hate the Romans for leaving so many coins and other junk all around your country side, not only that, but they had to leave cache's everywhere too. Why didn't they come to America and leave something? If the Romans found America first, then things would be much better. At least the Spanish left a little, but now they want it all back.

Enjoy reading your post and seeing your pics, even though I cry a little!

This one was dug from a buddy here in my area. One of our Archie is specialized in hammereds and identified a similar coin as a cologne minted. I dont know the reason why imitations were made. He told us that there are only little differences on the bust. :dontknow:

I have to disagree if he thinks this is from Cologne, the biggest differences are with the blundered/altered Obv & Rev Legends & If you gave a better picture so I can see the reverse letters, I'm 95% sure its not an imitation & is from York.
