It's a keeper and worth a few bucks. I'd suggest posting it in the antique bottle forum as well.

Im no expert but the style of the font on the number 2 appears legit - period correct.

It is not technically a moon shine jug although it could have been used for that purpose. Where was it found? The finish on it is called salt glaze. I think it dates around the turn of the 20th century.If it had cobalt blue decorations or a makers name on it the value would go up but with just the "2" on it denoting a 2 gallon size it would probably be worth 50 to 100 dollars.
 

That’s a nice jug!! When I was a kid, me and a friend unearthed about 45 stoneware vessels of various shapes and sizes that were unbroken. I wish I had kept a few, but being kids we sold them to our local antique store for .50 - $1.00 depending on the size and shape. We also dug a ton of very old bottles they would pay for as we toted them in. Very cool find you have there!!!! It’s a keeper
