I am planning a trip to Montana. Can anyone recommend a good "gem mine" in the area? I'm not planning to get rich, just want to have some fun at a friendly place.

I know this is old.. but someone might find it useful.

Smokey Quartz -> Lolo National Forest (Lolo pass area near Misosula) -- I've personnaly found fist sized smokies there.
Smokey Quartz -> Delmoe lake area (outside of Butte)
Saphires -> Skalkaho Pass (near Missoula)
Crystal Park -> (near Dillon)

Also if you're in Montana.. need to check out the Mineral Museum in Butte.. unbelievable stuff in there.
