That is really cool. It is great that you are donating for the cause and to keep the history flowing for others to enjoy down the road.

Talk about history. There it is. What are the odds of that? Congratulations sir.

I keep alot of things . But without the history It's just another Thimble!
To not donate it would feel like I'm stealing the areas history. To each his own: )
Considering I'm changing the park directors mind on metal detecting and detectorists at the same time
Is reward enough for me.

That is well said.

Well done, LIM! My hat's off to you. The thimble is a great find and in such excellent condition. It will, no doubt, make the centre piece of the park's collection. What a great way to preserve the history of the area and like you said, promote responsible metal detecting.

All in all it went over well.the issue with the park I'm having is that here in buttonwood the idiots have been out in droves plugs sitting ontop of holes with dirt around them.full sized shovels leaving massive holes to the point where it looks like someone's been taking home a hunk of the ground as a souveneir.

Here's where I came in .. The park director was ready to try and ban it 100% with signs and enforcement
I demonstrated proper plugs showed her the trash.and made a multitude of Cool historic donations.through a good pal and him vouching for my love of the park.
The Thimble being the icing on the cake. Now she wants to make people have to have permits
And wants me to go have a say in what happens in the park and go before the city and try and set up the stipulations of the permIt's.

Tell her how other city's who have implemented such measures do it
Does anyone have any advice.I don't want local detectors to hate me.but It's to the verge of it not being allowed at all..and I believe should be allowed to detect by some means
Buttonwoods already a no go.this would open the park up to some people
I don't know the first thing about MD permit situations
Am I in to deep? Be Civil.Honest i could use some help.

I have absolutely no experience with this sort of thing but do you think having a day where you could basically show the detectorists what's expected of them in the way of cutting and replacing nice plugs would be helpful. I don't want to sound stupid here but we have hunters safety courses here and basically they teach people how to be safe and responsible in the woods. They are then certified and allowed to get a hunting license. We have to figure out a way for people to hold themselves to a higher standard out there. I just think if you did a course for lack of a better term it would set a precedent and that could be the certification and permit process. Prob a stupid idea but it's all I got :-) good luck buddy I hope it all works out for you
