Modes question on the ace 250

Does it really matter which mode you set the ace for as long as you notch in or out for for what you are looking for ??
is the modes just a preset for easy operation . If i set the custom up the same as any other mode is it going to make any difference in the sounds and signals, nothing much seems to change when i set custom the same as coins
