I hunted this 'naturalized' inner-city park for 3hrs on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I wish I could've gone longer but the temps with the humidity here have been into the low 90's by noon. :sunny: This is a large park that covers approximately 10 acres of land in the city where I live, so this site will be my regular Sunday morning hunt location until I cover it all. I was hoping for rings and maybe some older coins here, but I'll take these finds any day! :laughing7:

My finds for the morning were a brass horsebell c.1900, a brass No. 1 size oil lamp collar c.1890, a 'Crown' preserve jar lid including the blue glass sealer c.1930, an alarm clock bell and $1.37 in cash!

Thanks for looking and best of luck to you all,
Dave

Nice bell. Keep going there could be more.

Not too shabby at all for a new park. Who knows what's lurking below the surface there. Nice finds!

love the jar lid, I found several at my old grand parents home place, as well as some old marbles, cool stuff

Nice hunt! It's funny to hear "large park that covers 2 acres" we have schools that cover 10 acres and some parks that are hundreds of acres. :)

For sure, thanks for your post Greylock!

This park will keep me busy literally for years!
Dave

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

I've only ever found one old marble in the 'plug' before, I'd love to find a jar of them buried someday.
I've found a number of glass 'sealer jar lids' over the past 5 years, but this is the first 'blue' one!
This is the sealer from a 'Crown Preserve Jar', they were a Canadian based company that started in the 1890's.
I have one of their earlier 'pint' jars in my collection, it dates to around 1900 and is 'grey' in colour.

Here's a picture of it,
Dave

You're right Rob, I meant to say '10 acres', this site is definitely larger then 2 acres! :laughing7:
Thanks for your post and best of luck to you,
Dave

I'm sure the heat in Mass is worse than it is here in Southern Ontario! :laughing7:
So yes, whenever I can get into the shade of a tree or get a bit of a breeze I'm happy!

Best of luck to you MsBB,
Dave

Cool finds, but hey parks were something before they were parks so no telling what youll find. Know any history on the area?

Hello Kylee, thanks very much for your post and for the question regarding the parks history!
I've researched a number of maps of my area going back to the mid 1800's, as far as I can tell this property has always been farmland.

Here is a map view of the area from 1880 and the same view of the area today ... not much has changed geographically.
I have whited out the street names, the areas in red are the parks boundaries old & new, the red circle is where I hunted.

Thanks for your interest and best of luck to you,
Dave

PS. I love your states history and culture, I've been there 3 or 4 times.
My favorite city by far is Fort Worth, I love how the town has preserved it's history and the H3 Saloon! :occasion14:

Hit up them old tree's for sure then, seems like back in the day people buried stuff for whatever reason and if it were me a good tree i could point out would be a spot. Where i live there is some pretty incredible history in washington county, lot of old farmlands and settlements in the area. I suspect people buried treasures out here too when the union came through and literally destroyed my town in 1873. No doubt people hide all that they could somewhere.

Thanks for the tip my friend, I've got it covered! I've yet to find any 'buried treasure' here in Canada, I think that was more of an American thang! :laughing7:
I love seeing all the CW bullets you guys dig in the states, finding a bullet of any kind here in 'The Great White North' is rare.

Here's a pic of the bullets I found from 2011 - 2013, this is my 4th year detecting and I've already found 2 musketballs this year!

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Seems odd not to see some beautiful old house slated for demolition in your post. If that park isn't hunted too hard, I will bet you find a ring or two. I suppose this park has a history of being farm land at some time past? Looks like a nice place to hunt on a bright Sunday!

Beautiful looking park Dave, and you got up some nice finds too.

The town I live in was settled in the early 1800's, but the original town was located a mile south of where it currently is now. I did locate this site on a map of our region from 1880 and yes, the property was a farm owned by someone by the name of H.Graham. I don't feel this park has ever been hunted before because of the sheer quantity of finds that are there. I can only hope that I find some gold or silver jewelry here, as I'm going to be detecting here literally 'for years to come'!

As far as old houses and farm fields go my friend ... I'd much rather be detecting those then a 'modern park' anyday!
But, we get what we get and we don't get upset right?! :laughing7:
Dave

Absolutely! Sometimes, I deliberately seek out modern parks just for a change of pace. If we dig many types of areas and the different tones given by them, we learn more ( or should, anyway! ). Most parks were either fields or the sites of commercial or residential areas at some point in their history. Looking forward to more great finds from you. Good luck!

Thanks for your post Dave! :occasion14:
This site is very serene to detect in as there is no playground equipment and hence no screaming kids or dogs to run afoul of here! :laughing7:
This does concern my a bit though with regard to the quality of finds that might turn up. Finding rings and coins is nice, but as you know I love finding the old stuff, pre-1900 in date when possible.

We'll just have wait and see what comes to the surface here!

Hope you and Rick are having a good year down east,

This is exactly how I feel! It's a nice change of pace from detecting farm fields and we're more likely to find jewelry and coins here in parks. I also think most of us started detecting parks in large cities or small towns ... at least I did anyway.
At farms and old house sites when I get a good signal I usually have a pretty good idea of what it is, but at parks you never know what it can be ... but usually it's just can slaw! :laughing7:

Dave

Very cool spot, I'd be in the shade all summer and the sun all fall. Too bad about your long winters.

Nice finds, I would love a park like that, good research!
