modern bullet?

This bullet is 3/8" wide and 1" long. Can anyone tell me if it is an old or newer bullet?

What does it weigh in grains? Bullets are weighed in grains , at least in the USA. The heaviest .38 Special was 200 grains. If it is over that it is probably a lever action rifle bullet like say a .38/40? Monty

From the weight and length I am inclined to think something more like .338 Winchester. It resembles a .45-70, but it is a bit light weight. The .338 is an old round but still in production. I think it is definately a modern day bullet because of the number of grease grooves. A lot of handloaders still use cast bullets. I use a 405 grain bullet in my .45-70. Monty

Hey Big, don't have calipers, but it is right on at 3/8 inch wide.

Also, it could have been even heavier but some of the tip is missing looks like.

My last educated guess. .38-55 Winchester cast lead bullet. Bullet diameter .375".Came out in the 1920s, died out and reintroduced as the .375 Winchester in 1978. The .375 has a much higher chamber pressure and should not be fired in a .38 55 Rifle. Monty P.S. The early ones had a heavier bullet.
