Well I finally made contact with the owner of a plantation home built in 1851 which is near my house. I fully expected to be turned down when asking to detect but come to find out my eye doctor owned the property and gave me permission to detect the home site and the farm. He said it had been hunted before by a friend and also by himself but that they had not found much. I was excited to hunt knowing it was such a huge area and that it couldn't have been hunted out.
I noticed right away the lack of coins, even clad! Only .36 cents clad for the day?? But I did find other things including a half of a walmart sack full of trash targets. Canning jar lids, iron hinges and parts, and of course pull tabs and junk metal.
I did find a nice piece. A Millersburg Military Institute Belt Plate! :laughing7:
It says established in 1898 and it is from Millersburg Kentucky. I found a nice old button with lots of gold gilt left as well.
Enjoy the pics

Sorry about the size of the pics! ??? I have tried to make them smaller but don't know how?? Someone may want to try to make them small

Fantastic finds

I love it when they tell me it's been hunted before and then I start digging canning lid jars.
It tells me that who ever detected , didn't hit it too good. Correct me if I'm wrong, the canning jar tops sound dam close to a plate eh?

Yeah those canning jar lids sound great but I can usually tell it is a big object when my depth meter says 1-2 inches and I'm still digging after 4 inches! :laughing7:
That plate was only about 2 inches down! :o
