MM and I headed for the NC mountains today. We trimmed some weeds on his mountain property and then did some mountain metal detecting. The bees swarmed around Doug during the weed whacking and he got stung three times. (Yellow Jackets).

I tried to make him feel better (as we drove in his treasuremobile) to several promising hunting spots, by listing 300 other more ghastly things that could happen to a person. Anyway. He survived the incident and later on I found a sterling silver cub scout ring and a button that reads "B & S MFG CO." on the back. All in all, a memorable mountain treasure detecting experience!

Great finds Rid.

That is why I bought and carry Sting Sticks in my bag now. Got them at Wal-mart for $5.00.

Sorry for your friend that hurts bad. :(

Dave, congrats on the buttom and ring. That picture doesn't do that ring justice. It looks a LOT better than that.
Thanks for the help trimming the weeds. Next time I'm going in with a flame thrower! ;D
Looking forward to some silver this week.

P.S. "Damn bees!!!"

Great hunt, and I really like that ring.

Still love the ring, I looked it up on Ebay and it was not selling nor was listed bringing any big bucks, there is just no justice somtimes. I think that find is one of those that way outwieghs its Ebay value

You two are always into some sort of adventure. I truly feel for MM,I was up on a real steep roof one time and a great big yellow jacket stung me 3 times in the stomach, got under my shirt,I couldnt even run,was trapped on a walkboard and had to sit there and take it. You always seem to dig a ring no matter where you go,only person I think that finds as many is BDoo or maybe some of those water guys. You guys stay out of trouble and be careful out there...Shoot

Nice cubs ring...How much.... if you decide to sell it?
RD.

Hey Ridley,

Nice story and finds! Poor MM, was good of you to list 300 other ghastly things that could have happened, LOL. HH, Mike

Gotta be careful of them bees there, especially the yellow jackets.

When the weather starts cooling down, they know they are going to die soon so start stinging anything they can (my opinion).

I had an experience once where I didn't see it and stepped onto an underground hornets nest and busted the thing wide open.

Talk about pissed off bees and seeing me break a world record in the 50 yard dash. Like an idiot though I wasn't thinking, and when I realized what i did and seen the growing cloud around my head, I said something I can't repeat here, threw my detector down and ran like the cops were after me. (yah I know about a 2.8 on the IQ scale there).

Afterwards I had to go home and get a smoke bomb to .. whatever it does to bees, so they don't bother you, run in grab the detector and run out. Overall not a fun day out.

Ticks and other biters can be issues too, bring ointment with you when you detect.

Great finds though so it was worth it.

Ouchie MM, dang bees, those YJs are aggressive huh.
Nice lot of finds Ridley, keep em coming buddy, congrats!
and I hope MM gets rewarded for his dedication.
A nice gold ring would make the pain feel a bit better.

Smiles!

TC,
I agree. This ring looks fantastic if you saw it in person. Ridley had it polished to a brilliant shine
by the time we returned home on our 3 hour drive.

yellow jackets suck! they will be thick around here in another month or so. other bees dont ever seem to bother me but yellow jackets sting me every year. they are so much more aggresive than your run of the mill honey bee. glad your friend wasnt allergic, and thats a real nice ring you got. be careful out there!
