100 soldiers each from the 5th Ohio, 2d Illinois and First Missouri Cavalry were on a expedition in the vicinity of Panola, Mississippi. They were encamped on a Doctor Adkin's Plantation, 12 miles from Hernando. During a dense fog, the camp was surrounded by Rebel General Chalmers and 2000 infantry with six field cannons. The 300 man did a Saber Charge and cut their way through losing about a third of their number. Granted it will take some foot work to find this site. You'll have to find old land records to pinpoint the site. Good luck to you and if you find the site, send me a Union and Confederate Minie bullet. Thanks.
