I dug these right on my own property. I know there use to be a store here in the early 1920's or 30's. I think these are cool.

Nice Finds ! I got a Mississippi sales tax token up here in PA last year.

Recently heard someone else did also.

they got around :laughing7:

Yes they did..... I in mississippi and figure there are more here just waiting to be dug up... Lol. I wonder what year these were made.

I labeled my 1 Mil as 30's after some research last year but apparently never found an exact date.

One of the diggers on "diggers" found one on the last episode.

The land owner told them you needed one every trip to the store.

I believe he said they were 1/10 cent

My understanding you bought them in bulk,
and if you didn't have one, you had to pay a full penny :tongue3:

Per Schimmel's U.S. State-Issued Sales Tax Tokens, Mississippi issued three different series of tax tokens. The ones used 1936-41 were aluminum for the 1 mill denomination and brass for the 5 mill. Yours are the former. Then in 1942 they issued white fiber and grey fiber 1 mill and red-brown fiber 5 mill tokens. Finally the 1943-52 series was off-white plastic and snow white plastic 1 mill and blue plastic 5 mills.
