Mississippi River Drought Reveals Treasures Beneath the Surface

Not Sure if it Still Is in a Drought

Here in the 2000s I met two treasure hunters who scoured the dried up drought beds of the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers here for things thrown overboard by the paddle steamers. They found a fortune in old black horse whisky bottles and other rare collectable bottles and jars. They showed me some amazing finds. It was so dry that they hired 4wd quad bikes for several weeks and rode up and down them collecting everything they saw. They made a small fortune. They reckoned the Murrumbidgee was the best.
