I spent several hours detecting the small, old back yard of a cousin several miles away today. He's in a neighborhood with houses from the 1920's so I really expected something good and old. My preference was silver but I'll state up front it wasn't to be. Nor did I even find a wheat penny. What I did find, however, I am very pleased with! In my mind, the best find of the day was a souvenir Mission bell from San Luis Rey in California. Information I found on the Internet leads me to believe these were produced from 1914-55. I've found hundreds of silvers but never one of these so I'll take it. I also found what I believe to be a button from a Navy uniform; certainly someone here will know for sure. Anyone who has detected for any length of time has found play money; I have a pretty big pile after more than nine years, but I don't think I found Calvin Coolidge (before today). He's a 50 center. In the toy department, there's a Tootsietoy Roadster (common) the remains of an older truck and a gun (almost intact). I didn't get the silver I was after, but I'm pleased with what I harvested!
