Hello all!

I had not been out since monday night and had a rough day so I headed out to a town park... I spent about 90 minutes digging targets... I nabbed 3 wheats and all modern clad :-( I decided to change locations to another park closer to town and loaded up my E-Trac left the park and turned right... and... orange cones and missing sidewalk... and it waskn't all roped off... hmmm... I pull over... 3 blocks missing on one side and 1 block missing on the other side...

What the heck... lets doeeeet... :-)

Next target was a wheat penny on the surface! I got another 4 wheat pennies, some copper line parts...

I crossed the road to the one block part on the other side... 12/47 @ 1"

There were 8 wheat pennies total... This was the first time I hunted a spot where they were replacing sidewalks :-) Fun... easy and a fast 2 silver coins for the 20-30 minutes I was there... :-)

Happy Hunting All!

Not bad at all!

great huntng paul!

Nice work! I was wondering what the mint mark is on that Merc. It is a 1917 isn't it? If the mint mark is a "D" - well your in the money.

Nice! You found all the clad under there too?

Nope... the clad came from the park that I mentiond I was at when I found this 4 blocks of missing sidewalk :-)

Have an awesome day!

No mint mark... but I do believe you are thinking of the 1916 D...

Great find... the missing side walk. lol

Nice haul on the silver.

Just some info on Key Date Dimes...

•1916-D - With a mintage of only 264,000 this is by far the rarest Mercury key

•1942/1 (2 over 1 date) - Overdate type for both 1942 and 1942-D, mintages are unknown but the type is extremely rare

Semi-key (scarce) dates in the Mercury Dime series include:
•1921
•1921-D
•1926-S
•1931-S
•1931-S

:o I always wondered how many coins the workers find, when the forms are set :icon_scratch: Smart :sign13: Nice finds 8) silver

Good eye spotting the tearouts
Nice silver and wheat

rather hunt sidewalks than just about anywhere, had some good luck, cuz where there are sidewalks, people walk and people drop stuff

often these sidewalks were in place before the age of metal detectors * and as such are virgin ground -- well worth working over =--as you have found out -- sadly often window of hitting them is rather small so get it while the getting is good --street tear out & replacement are also prime spots. :icon_thumright:
