Would like to have scene your face when you flipped it over to see the mintmark. Close maybe next time it will be the D.

Went to one of my one room school sites for 2 hours, got a nice little pocket spill. Would have been more excited if the mint was a D instead of an S tho. Oh well, cant win them all.

nice little spill. i'm always surprised to get a mint mark at all from any older coins here in the northeast. i always wonder how they made their way here.
congrats, and hope your next '16 comes with a 'D.'

I gotta ask me being a newbie and all,,,,,,,Why is the "D" mint mark sought after?
thanks everyone, yes i hope so too, the 1916D is a very rare and collectable coin.

Nice find!
That sure had to get your heart pounding pretty good. Maybe next time????
Good luck!

still a great find.........but I know EXACTLY how you feel, I dug a XF+ shape 1916-S last fall. I could see the coin had a mintmark and I did not want to wipe it, so I went and ran water over it..........man what a huge let down!!!
