Personally I don't. Keep digging all that iron, I do.

The middle is a large staple for wood I think

Welcome to the forum! There is a wealth of knowledge here, and I'm sure you and your son will have a great time together no matter what you dig. Your items look like a piece of wire, a staple, and a nail. This is just the beginning, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your finds. Breezie

Welcome to Tnet. We're a good bunch and you're in a good place.

I dig a lot of iron when I go to a new place. Just try and figure out how to tell what is and what isn't iron so you can decide.

I'm impressed that you are not "signing" (hitting target with your shovel) things.

So you've got an iron nail, a steel staple, and a piece of steel wire bent in a shape to maybe hang something on it????

One thing I have found is that when iron and steel rust, the signal may not sound the same all the time as the rust is a different thing from iron or steel. Also, when thing are bent or circular, they can give a strange or even good & loud signal.

So dig it all until you know your machine. Then YOU decide to dig or walk.

Digging iron is NOT a bad thing.

Keep hunting, posting, and asking.

Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! This was our first "treasure hunt" and finding ANTHING was considered, to us, a success. We are very excited about our new hobby. My son is a Civil War fan and is hoping to find something from that era. We will post anything interesting we find. Thanks again!

Welcome to Tnet. I agree with some of the others. I dug a lot of iron signals. You just never know. Gun parts and a lot of other good items are made of iron. Sometimes on things like the bent piece of wire, the staple or even the bent nail some of the detectors will try to read the open space between the piece of iron as good. I hope we can see some good stuff posted by you all soon.
