Mint error or coin ring

Here are pics of an IHP I found last night at a local park. Trying to figure out how the coin got this way. Thanks in advance 4 any help.

Yes after the mint. It looks like a spooned coin. Unusual to find that on an Indianhead.

Yes I would say a spooned coin. Maybe someone was practicing their technique on a penny before going to the silver.
