Had a good two days week-end hunt with a nice variety of coins and relics. After 5 years of detecting, found my personal bucket lister. Despite lacking any monetary or historical value, this relic was pretty high on my list.

Anthropomorphic clay pipe bowl from mid 1800's

Found a good mix of early coins.

Almost mint Civil War period 2 cents 1864 (meant to say Civil War period in the title of the post as well, sorry for the confusion)

It's my second 2 cents coin in as many weeks. When I compared the two after getting home, had a pleasant surprise. One of them has 180 degrees rotation error being struct as a ''medal'',not a coin.

My second American was way younger but again in a great conservation state. 1891 Liberty Head or ''V'' nickel.

An other first, VICTORIA NOBIS EST 1811-1813 Halfpenny

20190816_161049.jpg20190816_161042.jpg

Lower Canada 1837 Halfpenny in an OK shape

20190818_090229.jpg20190818_090238.jpg

And 1782 Hibernia Halfpenny (at first it looked like the coin was used as a button, but I believe those marks could be from a bird shot)

20190818_174021.jpg20190818_174031.jpg

A couple of other coins, eight in all

Did find a few nice military relics

An other plate from 1830's-1850's ( first one for me of this type)

20190816_160928.jpg

Two more V buttons

20190818_174115.jpg

Again 1830's-1850's 1st Regiment of Volunteer Militia

20190818_181551.jpg

Victorian PR button (provincial rifles?)

20190818_174207.jpg

An other decorative military chain

20190816_083912.jpg

And one that looks more solid and functional (maybe was attached to a sabre/sword?)

20190817_101255.jpg

Mysterious C.H. plate

20190818_095025.jpg

Early medicine bottle

And my detecting buddy. As you can notice, he was wearing the same style of gloves as I did.

Thanks for the comments.

Fantastic bunch of coins, artifacts, bottle, etc. The hunting buddy should be mandatory: slow and steady ...

Awesome!!! Nice Hunt!!! Congrats!!!

Another amazing hunt. I’d love to take a peak at what you find but does not warrant posting in your opinion. Seems like all of your finds are truly top shelf. Huge congrats on everything, the V and 2 Center are incredible!

I want to dig in your dirt!! Amazing state of preservation on your coins and relics. One of those chains may be a curb chain from a horses bit. I am a little confused about this comment One of them has 180 degrees rotation error being struct as a ''medal'',not a coin. I'm pretty sure they are both coins

By the way, love the pipe bowl!

Amazing ground. Love the 2 cent. I think he means if u flip it vertically one is correct for US coins. The other flips horizontally

Thanks Steve. They are indeed both coins but the orientation of the obverse vs reverse is different. If you look at your British coins, they have a medallic orientation contrary to coin orientation used in U.S.

I had never heard the term Metallic Orientation before. It's pretty common to see rotational errors on earlier US coins, but by the 1860s it was becoming a lot less common. To see a perfect 180 degree rotational error is uncommon even on the early coins.

My goodness another fantastic group of finds you've found. I look forward to reading all of your posts. Congrats on another great hunt!!!

Edit: do you coat your coins in something before posting pics? Just curious.

Unbelievable hunt, that 2 cent piece is in better shape than the ones that I've bought for my personal collection!

Very nice, you never know what you may find until you look.

Nice mix of coins and relics, that pipe is pretty cool! Great photos too by the way.

Steve
