Can anyone help identify this? It looks like a miniature minie ball, same material and shape, however its only 1/2" long.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I forgot to add that I found it in a farm field where I also found some flat buttons from around 1840. I found this about 20' or so from the flat button and about 7"down. The field hasn't been a farm for 40 years or so.

That caliber has been around since the 1850's.. so, if it is .22 cal. It's possible that it's old.

The .22LR has been around since the 1887 The .22 Long rimfire since 1871. I think your bullet is too large for the older (1857) .22 Short and .22 Long rimfires; which uses/used a 29 grain bullet instead or the 40 gr of the .22 Long Rifle cartridge.

Thanks gentlemen. Do you guys know if this is a common find or a rare find?

I have 3,000 in my den that look just like that ready to be fired. There is no more common bullet in the world.

BUT - like all non silver or gold m/l finds YOU determine the value. Did you enjoy finding it?

Yes I did. Thanks for the info. I am still learning to use my Whites V3i after using the AT PRO for my first year of detecting. I was testing out the PROSPECTING program that is designed to find smaller objects. I am very excited to begin using the program and switching between it and the DEEP SILVER program.
