Minelab Explorer XS

Its a great machine, it was the first minelab I bought and still have it, I still bring it out from time to time. You need to sweep slow and learn the sounds and dont look at the screen exept for depth. Oh did I mention you need to sweep the coil slow, in trashy areas a one way sweep might take 5 seconds or more and sometimes that is to fast.

Thanks..Its my first, did alot of research. I am aware of the slow sweep needed, but could use help from others on configuration..can't wait to use it ..do you use programs? if so how do you use them? Thank you.

Where do you plan on hunting? Parks, fields?

Beach will be my first try..but I travel alot so could be anywhere.

ferrious tones...all metal...dig all hi and mids at the beach...but when learning dig all, then you will learn faster, and call the targets before you dig them...land.....not sure, been so long since I jumped ship. Good about the beach, you will find more treasure.

Thanks to you both , I appreciate the feedback

I have an Exp 2. Ive used it exclusively since 2004. It was tuff to get used to...but now when it talks to me, I know exactly what it's saying. The explorer series is a great lineup of machines. I hunt farm fields and homesteads moslty. I run it in my fair ground conditions at -16 or -15 in Iron Mask. Ferrous sounds, variability and gain and limits at 10(max) Deep and Fast are Off. I hunt with the Smart screen. In -16 Iron Mask; you are running in all metal. Go slow...listen to the tones. Good luck!

Well that was fun. My xs shuts itself down and wont power up.This is after I charged the battery pack it came with.. so unsure if its the battery.the power button,or ?

Shot battery or bad connection. Use an erasure to clean the battery's terminal. Test it with a meter. Look inside the detector with a light and see if it looks ok.

Thanks Kyboy.. Its the original battey..Sometimes it powers up..but then I can't shut it off with power button. It worked fine for two hrs yesterday when I tried it for first time..then charged it all last night.

I guess it didnt come with the battery pack that uses store bought alkalines?

No.. I bought it used a few days ago.
